Tempo falls in drain,24 students injured

Twenty two children were injured,three are said to be critical,after a tempo in which they were travelling fell into a drain near Kili Chalhan village on Monday.

Twenty two children were injured,three are said to be critical,after a tempo in which they were travelling fell into a drain (nullah) near Kili Chalhan village on Monday. Around 30 children,all below 12 years,were travelling in the tempo with their teachers. The students of Government Primary School Dholewal,Ludhiana,were on their way to Kot Isse Khan in Moga to participate in a cultural programme.

SDM Moga H S Sandhu said,“A truck tried to overtake the tempo while crossing a narrow bridge. The driver of the tempo tried to move to a side and in the process fell in the drain. Luckily it hit a tree trunk and stopped midway”

Those critically injured have been identified as Sarabjeet Kaur,Dami Kaur,Balwinder Singh and Satnam Kaur a caretaker. They have been referred to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana.

Some of the students are undergoing treatment at the civil hospital in Jagraon; they have been identified as Manpreet Kaur,Kiranpreet kaur,Amandeep Kaur,Hardeep Kaur,Jaspreet Kaur,Parveen,Amandeep Kaur,Amanpreet Kaur,Amandeep Kaur and Mewa Singh. Seven students were sent home after giving medical aid while another three,who have been identified as Aneesha Rani,Mandeep Kaur and Manjeet Kaur,have been admitted in civil hospital in Ajitwal.

“Luckily a team of NREGA was working near the incident sire and they alerted us. We reached the spot with ambulances in a few minutes. Aid from Jagraon,too came in. SDM Jagraon Mukand Singh,SMO Jagraon,DSP Moga Pargat Singh and other officials reached the spot immediately,” said SDM Sandhu.
