The UT Administration has decided that the interview process for recruiting schoolteachers from now on will be videographed. The decision was taken at meeting of the Education department officials chaired by Home-cum-Education Secretary Ram Niwas. Officers of DOEACC Society, the agency that is coordinating the recruitment, were also present at the meeting. The decision has been taken in the wake of a scam in teachers’ recruitment that came to light recently.

While the interviews for most of the subjects have been completed, those for maths,Punjabi and Hindi pending. It was decided interviews will be held as soon as possible.

It has also been decided that IAS officers will be deputed, under whose supervision the result of the candidates whose interviews for posts of schoolteachers have already been conducted would be finalised. Sandeep Kumar,Ashok Kumar,Abhishek Dev and Prerna Puri have been made the observers. The result will be complied in the presence of these officers. Abhishek Dev has been directed to act as the Coordinating Officer for the finalisation of the process of compilation of result, being done by DOEACC.

Also,Education department officials will no longer have access to the computer in which the data related to the recruitments is stored. Ashok Kumar will have the password and the computer will work only after the representatives from the Panjab University and DOECC also put in their passwords.

It may be recalled that a scam in the recruitments had come to light after one of the candidates complained that she was approached with the assurance that she would receive a job if she paid a certain sum. While two persons have been arrested in the case, the involvement of Director Public Instructions (Schools) Samwartak Singh is also being probed.
