Take a Second Look

It’s a special moment for Saksham Malik,as he takes a second look at his 19 photographs that find space at Alliance Francaise’s Café Theatre,and are part of his first exhibition titled “Love At Second Sight”. The cosy corner at the café has a small space for artists to display their works — paintings,photographs,graphic art and also a small stage for intimate performances,absolutely free of cost. Over the last couple of months,there have been regular exhibitions here,the idea being to assist young talent to express themselves publicly. “In galleries,not many would be interested to see the work of a first-time artist. Here,we find an audience,encouragement and free space,’’ says Malik.

With a love for both photography and writing,17-year-old Malik says that he picked up the camera to express himself,and people’s faces absorbed him the most. So,exhibited here are portraits of people on the street,men,women,children,ordinary people,who express with their eyes,smiles and sorrows. In the exhibition,Malik has particularly focused on people we see around us,from diverse backgrounds and with different stories. The photographs are supported by captions expressing the theme and emotions of the pictures.

“These are images that stayed with me,something that compelled me to give a second look,and so the title of the exhibition,’’ says Malik,who adds that he spends more time than required in finalising his work,and it always has surprising undertones and a fresh perspective at the end,something he didn’t see initially.

The exhibition is on till August 16.
