The Punjab government today sought time to consider suggestions given by the amicus curiae with regard to the policy on tainted police officers framed by the Punjab government.
Additional Advocate General (AAG) for Punjab,Rupinder Singh Khosla appearing on behalf of the State sought time to consider the suggestions given by the amicus, senior advocate Sanjay Bansal. Accepting the request, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today adjourned the case to August 30.
The amicus,on the last date of hearing, had challenged the policy to proceed against tainted police officers framed by the State. The policy was prepared only after the Punjab and Haryana High court had reprimanded the State for not having one. The development took place during the resumed hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) arising out of suo motu notice taken by the High Court.
The State today sought time to consider the suggestions on the ground that it (State authorities) could not do so in wake of demise of Punjab Chief Minister’s wife. On the last date of hearing, the amicus had raised eyebrows over the policy stating that the government had deliberately left escape routes for certain senior police officers posted at key positions.
