In a setback to the BJP,former councillor of the party Surinder Kumar Jagota joined the Congress on Sunday. Jagota had been a councillor in the last term of the Municipal Corporation. He was denied a ticket in the municipal elections held in 2011.
The president of the Indian National Trade Union Congress Kulbir Singh also rejoined the Congress.
Jagota was part of the Congress till a few years ago. He won the election of a councillor on the BJP ticket. After being denied a ticket during the municipal elections he was also not given any organizational responsibility as BJP announced office bearers for various posts.
Jagota says,After all the work I did for BJP,I was completely sidelined. I ensured that the councillor of the party who was contesting from the ward I represented won the election and campaigned extensively for her. However,at the end of it I have not been given any responsibility in the party. It was the wish of my supporters that I joined the Congress.
Jagota further stated that there were too many power centres in the BJP and the senior leaders did not have one voice.
Meanwhile,Kulbir Singh had been expelled from the party after he contested the municipal elections as an independent. He was taken back into the party fold. In the run up to the Lok Sabha elections,several BJP leaders have joined the Congress.
Addressing a gathering at a programme organized to welcome the leaders who joined,Union Minister for Railways Pawan Kumar Bansal criticized the BJP for creating hindrance in the working for welfare of people. He said that the BJP leaders are frustrated and in the last four years are not allowing smooth working of the Parliament as well as the local level bodies. They are misleading people by giving false statement and now the people will teach them a lesson in the forthcoming parliament elections.
He added that the BJP is not concerned with the welfare of the people but only want to grab power by unfair means. He said that the Congress government has done a lot for the development of the country. Various schemes have been launched for different sections of the society.
Bansal also attended a meeting of Sarpanches of all villages,members of Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti in sector 28. He announced that he is committed to fulfill all their needs specially overall development of the villages. He further said that he will take the issue of Stadiums in different villages for which he has given funds from MPLAD fund.
