Suman case: Lab technician,intern,house surgeon get bail

A few days after a consumer court awarded a hefty compensation in a landmark judgement to Suman,the victim of a wrong blood transfusion at GMSH-16,a local Court on Monday granted bail to three doctors of GMSH-16 who are facing trial in the case.

A few days after a consumer court awarded a hefty compensation in a landmark judgement to Suman,the victim of a wrong blood transfusion at GMSH-16,a local Court on Monday granted bail to three doctors of GMSH-16 who are facing trial in the case.

The court granted regular bail to lab technician Kirti Sood,intern Dr Navdeep Kaur and house surgeon Manpreet Kaur. They were released on a regular bail after depositing bail bond of Rs 20,000 each. A challan was also produced in the court.

The case dates back to December 2009,when in a matter of mistaken identity,two women by the same name,who were in a similar state of pregnancy were admitted in the hospital. The victim Suman,was administered a unit of B-positive blood that was meant for the other woman in the same hospital. As a result,her fetus died and kidneys were affected.

Earlier,a consumer court had granted a compensation of Rs 4 lakh and Rs 50,000 to be paid as litigation fee to the victim. She was also awarded free treatment for lifetime.
