With merely two months to go for the Panjab University (PU) student council elections, another incident of clash between two student organisations at DAV College,Sector 10,left a student leader injured. A representative of Students Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) from the college sustained injuries after being allegedly attacked with swords by the members of the Indian Students’ Association (ISA) party this afternoon.

The incident took place at around 2.30 pm inside the college campus. Arshdeep,SOPU Chairman of DAV College, was taken to Government Multi Specialty Hospital,Sector 16,and was discharged after getting seven stitches on his ear. Speaking to Newsline,Arshdeep said,“I had gone to the college to take an exam today. After moving out of the room,I was attacked by a group of over 20 people, all members of ISA from some other college.”

Arshdeep also stated that the one of the attackers had entered into a verbal spat with SOPU President Meet Jatana. “Today they had come to take revenge on Meet but he escaped unhurt and only I sustained injuries,” Arshdeep said.

Four students have been booked under charges of attempt to murder, causing grievous hurt, trespassing and criminal conspiracy. The four were identified as Balkaran,Mama,Kala and Balcharan.

The college authorities, meanwhile, claimed that none of the students are enrolled in the college. The principal of the college,B C Josan, said,“None of them is our student. The incident took place in my absence and I refuse to believe that the student was attacked inside the campus. We have ensured that no students with any criminal record get admission here.”

Earlier in March,a clash between the Panjab University Students Union (PUSU) and SOPU at the same college had left seven students injured, with two sustaining bullet injuries and being knifed. Members of the college student council (PUSU) were preparing for a star night to be held in the campus when they were attacked with pistols and sharp weapons.
