Stir Some Salsa

The flavours of Mexico don’t figure very prominently in menus across restaurants in the city, even though nachos, the salty snack paired with a dip,is giving tough contest to the dimsum counters at most food courts, including the neighbourhood multiplex. Mexican cuisine hasn’t been explored much, even though it shares many ingredients with Indian fare. Looking to make a start,Buzzczar, the all-day dining restaurant at Hotel Maya in Sector 35,Chandigarh,is hosting a Mexican food festival. On till August 26,the festival menu brings in a mix of popular favourites and some lesser-known dishes as well. There are the nachos,of course, with jalapeno sauce, flavoured tortillas and burritos, tacos filled with re-fried beans and veggies along with cheese quesadilla. We recommend the tacos that would appeal to all tastebuds for their crunch. Mexican cuisine, like Indian meals, incorporates native spices and ingredients. Executive Chef,Debosish Guha explains,“During the festival we would present a variety of dishes from Mexico. These dishes would give a taste of the new trends in authentic, quality Mexican cuisine,well- matched with Mexican beer, tequila and cocktails”. To add to the zing Guha has put together Mexican cocktails made with tequila and beer. The fajita garcia will remind you of kathi rolls, and if you are looking for familiar flavours,it’s a good pick. In a bid to present authentic flavours in the festival, the likes of apple enchilada,a dessert made using apple, raisins and chocolate has been included. Completing the Mexican experience, piped Latin salsa music will play in the restaurant. A meal for two will cost Rs 1,000 (excluding tax)
