Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday stated the resignation of three ministers from the present Punjab cabinet was a reflection of the SAD-BJP governments commitment to value-based politics. State minister Gulzar Singh Ranike stepped down on moral grounds on September 17 after a vigilance inquiry was ordered to probe the role of his former personal assistant into misappropriation of public funds. Apart from this,Bibi Jagir Kaur and Tota Singh resigned earlier this year after being convicted in different cases.
Addressing a huge religious congregation at Guru Ki Dhab in Jaitu,Sukhbir said: This action only shows our governments zero tolerance for corruption. He also slammed PPP president Manpreet Singh Badal and state Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh,Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal by terming them as the two spent forces of Punjab.
The deputy chief minister further issued a warning to warring sections within the SAD(B). There is no place for factionalism in our party, which is one of the oldest in the country. We have a history of 90 years and workers and leaders have to work as an united force or face the music, he said.
On the issue of Foreign Direct Investment,Sukhbir said: There are too many stakeholders in this issue and the Congress-led UPA government should have taken every one into confidence before announcing the move. We need to look at the interests of the small farmers before taking any step.
