12 teams for U-11 soccer festival thats gets underway from today
CHANDIGARH: St John’s School,St Peter’s School,St Joseph School,Mount Carmel,St Soldier International,Strawberry School,Chitkara School,Ryan International and The Banyan Tree School are among 12 schools which have confirmed their participation in the Chandigarh Football Festival for Under-11 for Mount Carmel Trophy which begins on Friday at Mount Carmel School in Sector 47. A school is allowed to field two teams consisting of 10 players in each team. It will be a seven-a-side contest with rolling substitution. Skill competitions would also be organised to spot out talent for regular coaching to the youngsters. CFA secretary Rakesh Bakshi said and the association would identify 30 players who would be provided regular training in camps to be organized at different venues. The CFA has requested the Chandigarh Sports Department to depute coached to train the selected youngsters.

Chaudhry appointed Competition Manager
CHANDIGARH: Another feather has been added to secretary of Amateur Athletics Association,Chandigarh,Ravinder Chaudhry’s cap as he has been appointed as Deputy Competition Manager for athletics in the forthcoming Commonwealth Games to be held in October,2010 at Delhi. At present,Ravinder Chaudhry is working as a senior Lecturer in the Department of Physical Education D.A.V. College,Sector 10,Chandigarh. Speaking on his appointment,Chaudhry thanked his mentor Dr. Lalit K. Bhanot,president of Athletics Federation of India. He forayed into Indian athletics as an organiser during the 6th Asian Junior Athletic Championship held in 1989 at Delhi.

Chandigarh probables announced
Chandigarh: Cricket Association of India (CAI) will be organising Third All India Senior Natioanl League Cricket Tournament at Pathankot,from February 18 to February 21. 16 teams will be taking part in the tournament and the winning team will be given a cash prize of Rs 50,000. The trials for selecting the Punjab team for the tournament will be held at 3 pm on February 7 at Shivalik Public School,Sector 41,Chandigarh. Interested players can contact coach Davinder Singh at 9256419948.

Chandigarh players will attend a camp at Shivalik Public School,Sector 41 on February 8 at 4.30 pm.

Golf tourney from today
Chandigarh: Chandigarh Income Tax Department will organise Central Revenue Sports Board Invitational Golf Tournament on February 5 and February 6 at Chandigarh Golf Club. Officers and staff members of Income Tax as well as Central Excise Departments from various cities in the country will take part in the event. The practice session for the tournament will be held at February 5.
