Gurkirat and Rajwinder shine
Playing in the last league match of the Emerging Players Tournament for Umesh Kumar Trophy,Bindra XI were bowled out for 268 runs in 77.3 overs on the first day of the match against Chaman Lal Malhotra XI at Sector 26 ground in Chandigarh.Bindra XI were well served by their skipper Vishwas Bhalla,who scored 59 off 87 balls. Although,it was Gurkirat Mann who stole the limelight hitting scintillating 138 off 144 balls. Harmeet Bansal (4 for 34) and Navdeep Singh (3 for 35) were the main wicket takers for Chaman Lal Malhotra XI. In the second match played in Patiala,M.P. Pandove XI batting first were skittled out for 172 in 63.1 overs. Anshul Tripathi topscored with 42. Manish Bhatia scalped 4 for 52 while Lakshay Seth grabbed 4 for 27,for Navjot Singh Sidhu XI. In reply Navjot Singh Sidhu XI were struggling at 76 for 7 in 26 overs.Rajwinder Golu bowled a dream spell as he captured seven wickets for 19 runs.
HDFC Bank and Godrej & Boyce in final
HDFC Bank XI defeated Deep Engg XI to enter the final of the Champions Trophy League Cricket Tournament,organised by the Chandigarh Sports Club here at Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium,Sector 3,Panchkula. Batting first after winning the toss,HDFC XI posted a total of 126 for the loss of nine wickets in 25 overs. In reply,Deep Engg XI were bowled out for 86 runs in 19.1 overs. Balwar Pooni was the pick of the bowlers as he accounted for more than half of Deep Engg batsmen. He picked up six wickets for just 9 runs. In the second semi final of the day Godrej & Boyce XI defeated Dell XI by twowickets to book their spot in the final.
Badminton trials on Oct 9 and 10
Chandigarh Badminton Association will be conducting trials to select Chandigarh badminton team that will participate in North Zone Inter-State Badminton Championships to be held at Himachal Pradesh from October 25. Trials will be conducted in the men and women sections (Senior boys) and girls under 19 (Junior Section) on October 9 and 10 at Sector 42,Badminton Hall at 9:00 am. Entries can be given to Satish Bhatia and Vijay Sharma in Sector 42 and to Promila in Sector 23 and Surinder Mahajan at Panjab University Badminton Hall. Last date for submitting entries is October 5.
Joshi nominated as Technical Official
Shiv Kumar Joshi,senior athletics coach of Sports Department,Chandigarh has been nominated as Technical Official for the conduct of Athletics Competition of XIX Commonwealth Games New Delhi to be conducted from October 3 to 14 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium,New Delhi. Shiv Kumar Joshi had been earlier nominated as Technical Official for the 1st Afro-Asian Athletic Meet which was held from October 24 to November 1 at Hyderabad.
