Riding high on Tanya Bhatia's fluent knock of 33 runs,Chandigarh Juniors pipped Chandigarh Seniors by three runs during a practice match played at Guru Nanak Public School,Sector 36,Chandigarh.

Tanya helps Juniors to pip Seniors
CHANDIGARH: Riding high on Tanya Bhatia’s fluent knock of 33 runs,Chandigarh Juniors pipped Chandigarh Seniors by three runs during a practice match played at Guru Nanak Public School,Sector 36,Chandigarh. Batting first,the junior team scored a total of 81 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Twelve-year-old Tanya Bhatia opened the innings for the juniors. Tanya got off to brisk start,playing shots with some perfect timming. Meanwhile on the other end,Sunaina was batting with vigour. She too got into the act and started to score at free will. Chandigarh medium-pacer Aakriti Sharma bowled well to take one wicket and put some breaks on the run flow. After Tanya and Sunaina perished,the juniors could not maintain momemtun. One would have thought that the seniors would achieve the target with ease,it turned out the other way. Led by some impressive bowling from Aakriti Junior (2 for 26) and Jaswinder (1 for 13),the seniors were restricted to 78 runs in 20 overs.

Sports meet on Sept 1 and 2
Chandigarh: The Democratic Youth Federation of India and Guru Gobind Singh Sports Club Village Dadu Majra,Chandigarh in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra an Municipal Corporation,Chandigarh is going to organise Annual Rural Sports Meet on September 1 and 2 at Guru Darona Acharya Stadium of Village Dadu Majra.

Punjab split points with Hyderabad
CHANDIGARH: Owing to overnight showers,Punjab’s opening match of the first round against Hyderabad in the ongoing All India Buchi Babu Tournamemt being held in Chennai,was called off. So,Punjab split points with Hyderabad. Hyderabad won the toss and elected to bat scoring 265 for 4 in 65 overs,when rain came down to end the proceedings of the first day. Opener Ravi Teja scored an unbeaten 135 for Hyderabad. For Punjab Taruwar Kohli,Bipul Sharma and Gunjot Singh scalped one wicket each. Rain continued through out the night rendering the pitch unplayable on the second day. The match was called off at 1.30 pm with Punjab and Hyderabad splitting one point each. Punjab take on Tamil Nadu in the second match on August 20 at M.A Chidambaram Stadium,Chennai.

Chess tourney from today
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Chess Association will organise the 21st Chandigarh Chess Championship (seniors) from Augsut 19 to 22 at St Xavier’s School,Sector 44. The top four players will be selected to represent Chandigarh in the forthcoming National Challenger Chess Championship to be held in Haryana in September.
