The history of Chandigarh used to come alive on screen as sound and lights played on the campus of Government Museum and Art Gallery,Sector 10,on weekends. Three years after the last show was organised,Rock Garden is expected to be the new venue for the Sound and Light Show.
When asked about the reasons for discontinuing the show,Jaswinder Kaur,Director,Government Museum and Art Gallery said,It was not very popular.
Elaborating on the issue, she said,The equipment, including lights and sound systems need repair, which involves a huge amount of money. Delhi-based firm Integrated Digital Solutions had visited the campus in November,2012,and inspected the equipments. We are expected to receive the report in the next couple of days, and then the advisory committee will contemplate the decision to whether repair the equipments or to change the venue.
Clearing the air regarding the new venue, she said,The area where the show used to be organised on campus will be renovated and the stairs will be removed, considering they seem to be of no use any more. The advisory committee considers Rock Garden to be the best location for the show, she added.
The last sound and light show was organised on April 30,2010,after which it was cancelled due to technical reasons. The programme that began in 2008,used to be organised on weekends at the gallery, and attracted a lot of tourists.
“The entire history of the city was explained in 45 minutes. We had sound effects which recreated the voice of Le Corbusier and Goddess Chandi. Sukhna lake was also simulated. The audience used to relish the experience, said one of the employees, who had been a part of the technical team of the show.
