Sufigram blends Indian electronica and sufi
A house of prayer, the ibaadat-gah is called a Sufigram, and what better than to give our music that name, says Paras Sunda, who has recently launched a musical outfit called the Sufigram. The band comprises DJ Chinx,DJ Kiran and Wazir Khan. Our music is Indian electronica coupled with sufi vocals, says DJ Chinx. I belong to a family of sufi singers and have been singing all my life,at dargahs and masjids, says Khan, who comes from Salamat Ali Khans gharana and his guru is BS Narang.
To catapult the whole performance to another level,Sunda will also blend it with rap and sher-o-shayari. There will be a live jugalbandi of song, poetry,Urdu couplets and kafia, He assures that this will add to the tempo. I am a writer and poet and Sufigram is one place where we will get some creative satisfaction, says the rapper, who also runs the famous dhol/percussion outfit Buzz Funk. The group organised the music for Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundras wedding. We also came out with an album,Chase the Passion. Once Sufigram hits the floors, there will be another album, says Sunda.
The band will also upload the gigs on YouTube within two weeks. Sufigram is hardly a month old and our aim is to make you relax and dance to music, says Sunda. The members believe that sufi is one genre which grows on you and never goes out of fashion. You are always in sync with the divine, they sign off in unison.
