From the cricket pavilion to cinema paradiso,Neha Sareen captures the moving images of her life & times

Cricket has and always will be a die-hard passion. And we’re not making this up. Neither is she. Mention the C-word,and the girl can hit a straight six. “My love affair began the day I saw Jadeja versus Younis. Six hits, and cricket won my heart,” anchor,TV presenter and at present the filmi host of Sony Pix’s Chicks on Flicks,Neha Sareen runs back to days of bat and ball. “Hardcore Test cricket, one day matches except for T20,that’s a concept I can’t relate to,” says Neha, who worked as a cricket presenter and did live shows on ground for a long time before moving on to her next challenge – reviewing films. “Well,Ira Dubey and I make a point to critique the film, not the person. It’s strictly reviewing

the work.”

An economics major from Ohio Wesleyan University,Neha got her big break as the host of Zoom’s Page 3 followed by anchor for Neo Sports. In fact, the girl’s also on a global platform with world leaders. The Planet,a documentary about global warming interviewed Neha as one of the two proponents from the Asian Economy along with Tony Blair,Bill Clinton,Helmut Kohl,Kofi Annan,Al Gore! A television anchor,a model and a corporate presenter,Neha now has a new passion – cinema. “Trust me,it’s not that easy reviewing films. We were chosen through rigourous auditions, tested for our skills, trained extensively on films, and then placed in front of the camera,” tells Neha, who, along with Ira,delivers their verdict on latest Hollywood movies released

in India.

“I love films, there is so much to learn. It’s a work in progress, and talking about them is like a powerful mental stimulation.” With a blog running successfully along the show,Neha enjoys the creative involvement it offers especially when she is the voice of the show. “It’s a huge responsibility to catch or thrash a film…I took on this show because it was unconventional, not run of the mill interviews and boring reviews.” Of course, the usual hiccups are there, and men dominate a large space. “But women know how make a space for themselves,” Neha says she wants to be taken seriously from the word go. “Hence when I began my career as a cricket commentor,I refused to package myself like a glam doll. I did not want to fall in any stereotype,” she shoots.

It’s a lovely life, and who knows from here it’s Cannes or perhaps acting or writing something. Till then,it’s checking the box office, wishing for more cricket pitches and a game where bowlers and batters stand on an equal footing.
