Six men who were nabbed by the Crime Branch on Thursday in connection with mobile phone snatching were produced in the UT district court on Friday. A total of 11 mobile phones were recovered from their possession.
The crime branch has constituted three special teams to catch snatchers after receiving information about these criminals involved in the recent snatching incidents in and around the city. The special teams,headed by Sub Inspectors Juldan Singh and Baldev Singh and Assistant Sub Inspector Sawinder Singh were constituted by DSP (Crime) under the supervision of Inspector Ranjodh Singh for this purpose.
On Thursday,Manjeet Singh (20) and Manpreet Singh,both residents of Patiala,were stopped at a police naka near Sector 1/4. On verification the registration number of the car they were driving was found to be fake and 11 mobiles were recovered from their possession. The accused admitted to have snatched the mobiles from Rajpura,Landran and Mohali.
Another police team caught Jatinder and Sagar Sharma near Piccadily Chowk and also recovered a cellphone that they admitted to have snatched from Sector 19/20.
On the third naka near Piccadily Chowk,two person riding a motorcycle were apprehended by police. They were identified as Pan Singh from Naya Gaon and a juvenile,from whom a mobile snatched from Sector 10/11 was recovered. All six accused have no previous police records,have studied till class X and are presently unemployed. Manjeet,Manpreet Singh,Jatinder and Sagar were sent to judicial custody for 14 days while the juvenile was sent to a home and Pan Singh was taken under two-day police remand.
