Sihag’s knock propels GNPS into final

A fine knock of 67 runs by Anil Sihag helped Guru Nanak Public School,Sector 36,Chandigarh,record a comfortable six-wicket win over APJ Academy,Kharar,in the semi-finals to move into the final of the Cremica Cup played at DAV Public School,Sector 8,on Monday.

A fine knock of 67 runs by Anil Sihag helped Guru Nanak Public School,Sector 36,Chandigarh,record a comfortable six-wicket win over APJ Academy,Kharar,in the semi-finals to move into the final of the Cremica Cup played at DAV Public School,Sector 8,on Monday.

APJ Academy,Kharar,won the toss and elected to bat first in overcast conditions. Batting first,APJ Academy,Kharar,posted a total a competitive total of 138 runs for the loss of six wickets in 15 overs. The match was shortened to 15 overs due to rain.

Pankaj was the highest scorer for the team as he played a knock of 78 runs off just 36 balls. He smashed seven boundaries and five towering sixes during his blistering knock. For Guru Nanak Public School,Aditya claimed one wicket for 30 runs,while Sajjan picked up one wicket for 26 runs.

Chasing a target of 139 runs in the allotted 15 overs,Guru Nanak Public School reached the target for the loss of four wickets in 14.2 overs. Anil Sihag played the anchor’s role as he smashed a brilliant knock of 67 runs off 37 balls.

His innings,which contained 11 elegantly hit boundaries and a towering six,helped the team win. Jaskaran was the other main scorer for the team with important 27 runs. For the losing side,Hitesh Bhutani claimed one wicket for 24 runs.

In the first semi-final match played earlier in the day,Satluj Public School,Sector 4,Panchkula,scored an eight-wicket win over DAV Model School,Sector 15,Chandigarh. Batting first,DAV Model School batsmen put on superb batting performances and posted a total of 131 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 15 overs.

Neeraj Joshi top scored for the team by playing a knock of 38 runs,while Vishal Thind contributed 31 runs. Joshi smashed three boundaries and two sixes,while Thind struck six boundaries. Due to rain,Satluj Public School were set a target of 79 runs in eight overs. Without any difficulty the team successfully chased the target for the loss of two wickets.

Manan Vohra remained unbeaten on 39 runs,while Gurprabhjot played a knock of 21 runs. Vohra smashed five boundaries and a six during his knock.
