A day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tore into the SAD-BJP government’s development claims,Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday responded by daring state Congress chief Amarinder Singh to a public debate. Inviting Amarinder for a one-on-one on the development works undertaken during the Congress tenure between 2002 to 2007,and by the present dispensation,Sidhu said: “ If Capt wins this debate,I will retire from politics”.

The BJP MP also took on the Prime Minister by claiming that the Congress’ Amritsar rally was a ‘flop show’. Against 10,000 seats for the PM’s rally not even 5,000 persons turned up. Even 10,000 is a very less number for a PM’s rally. He claims to be a great economist and has done nothing good for the country,Sidhu said on Sunday while campaigning for various party candidates in Ludhiana.

Campaigning for BJP Ludhiana Central candidate Satpal Gosain in Sunder Nagar, the former cricketer said Amarinder was swamped by corruption cases worth Rs 2000 crore in four Punjab courts and so is not fit to talk about wiping out corruption. “ He (Amarinder) is not a man of masses, and the development works of the SAD-BJP government are enough to bring it back to power,” Sidhu said.
