Zirakpur Municipal Council president Narinder Kumar Sharma took charge as the chairman of the Mohali Planning Board at a special function,boycotted by other members of the Board,on Saturday.
In an open show of dissent,the Board members skipped the function alleging they were ignored and no formal invites were sent to them.
Punjab PWD Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa,Chief Ministers media and political advisors H S Bains and D S Cheema,respectively,MLAs Ujjagar Singh Badali (Morinda),Jasjit Singh Bunny (Banur),Fatehgarh Sahib Planning Board chairperson and former MP Satwinder Kaur Dhaliwal,SAD general secretary Prem Singh Chandumajra and other senior leaders of the SAD-BJP combine were present in full strength as Sharma took charge by signing the official register of the Board.
Local municipal councillors,led by senior vice-president Harman Preet Singh Prince,also attended the function.
Deputy Commissioner Prabhjot Singh Mand and Senior Superintendent of Police Jatinder Singh Aulakh led the district civil and police administration to felicitate the new chairperson of the Board.
Dhindsa,meanwhile,said the state government has done away with the precedent of appointing ministers as heads of the district planning boards. With members from the public as chairpersons,the Boards will work more effectively, he said.
