Winners to get Rs 1 crore; runners-up Rs 51 lakh and third place holders Rs 25 lakh
The Punjab Sports Department will hold trials on March 20 at 9am at Guru Nanak stadium,Ludhiana,for the selection of Indian team probables for the forthcoming World Cup Kabaddi (Circle style) Punjab to be held from April 3 to 15.
Players from countries like United Kingdom ,United States of America ,Canada ,Pakistan ,Iran ,Australia,Italy,Norway,New Zealand and hosts India are expected to take part in the 13-day event.
According to Pargat Singh,Punjab Sports Director,the probables should get themselves registered with the Ludhiana District Sports Officer at 8 am on March 20. They should carry with them two latest passport size photographs along with the residential proof. Only Indian nationals are eligible to take part in the trials.
The Punjab Government would provide cash bonanza to the winning teams. The Government has earmarked a cash prize of Rs one crore and winners trophy along with individual prizes to the winners team. The runners-up country would take home Rs 51 lakh,while the third position holder Rs 25 lakh.
Pargat Singh said that the State Government has incorporated kabaddi in the state sports gradation policy to further boost the sport. An organising committee has been formed with state Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal as the chief patron and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal as chairman,according to Pargat Singh.
The finals and third and fourth positions matches would be telecast live. The final and hard line cup matches are likely to be played under lights. The matches would be played at different venues of the state. Yadavindra Public School of Patiala or Sports Stadium of Bathinda will be the venue of the event and the opening day matches. The Guru Nanak stadium,Ludhiana ,will be the venue of the finals and closing ceremony.
Other venues are Bathinda,Amritsar,Jalandhar,Gurdaspur,Hoshiarpur and Muktsar.
