The panel of doctors who conducted the second postmortem in the Maya suicide case has reserved its finding over the cause of death. The report read,The cause of death in this case will be given after the receipt of chemical examination report of the viscera sent in previous autopsy and histopathology report of uterus and its appendages, also sent in the previous autopsy.
The report,in possession of the Newsline, has confirmed the claim of kin of the deceased that the uterus was removed from the body during the first postmortem. The kin,Monica and Manju, sister and aunt of the deceased, had raised eyebrows on the first post-mortem done by a single doctor, who had removed uterus from the body.
Meanwhile,Mayas body was cremated today. Her body was preserved at the Government Multispeciality Hospital (GMSH-16) for over a fortnight. In another significant development today, the Chandigarh Police filed its reply against a demand made by Monica seeking permission of the court to record supplementary statement.
An application to this effect was moved on July 30 by Monica in a local court. We want supplementary statement to be recorded,as Monica was not able to depose properly before the police. She is illiterate and does not understand Hindi very well. She wants to bring certain relevant facts to the notice of the court, said Advocate Madhu P Singh.
The counsel had strongly objected to Monica being made complainant in an FIR registered on charges of abetment to suicide against Mercy Sebastian, niece of Father Sebastian,in charge of Don Bosco Navjeevan Church,Sector 24,Chandigarh,where she was found dead.
Today, the local court took the response of Chandigarh Police on record, facts of which were not disclosed to the petitioners, and adjourned the case for a week to consider Monicas request. It might be recalled that on Sunday,a panel of doctors at GMSH-16 had conducted the second post mortem, after Justice R C Gupta had ordered the same, accepting the request of Monica.
