The wait is finally over. The construction work for the Pandit Mohan Lal Boxing Stadium at SD Public School,Sector 32 is finally over and now Chandigarh has two boxing rings,one at the Sector 32 School and other at Sector 42 Multipurpose Hall. “The stadium was completed two-weeks ago,” informed K K Sharma,PCS (retired) and chairman-cum-manager of the school. Although UT Sports Department had agreed to provide them with a boxing ring after the completion of the stadium,the school decided to go ahead and purchase one itself. “Yes,we have bought the boxing ring ourselves. The earlier cost for the stadium was around 12 lakh but it increased to around 15 lakh after the purchase of the boxing ring,” shared the chairman. The school hasn’t made any policy yet and the stadium will be open for boxers of SD School only.
Boxing meet on May 16
The 32nd Junior Men and 6th Junior Women Chandigarh State Boxing Championships will be held at Sports Complex,Sector 42 on May 16 and. Chandigarh Boxers born in the year 1991 and 1992 are eligible to participate in all the 11 weight categories of junior division. Weighing in will be held at Boxing Hall,Sector 42 on May 16 between 8 to 10 am. Entries should be sent to the Dr C K Jerath,secretary,Chandigarh Amateur Boxing Association,on a letter pad stating the original date of birth and weight category of the boxers duly signed by the Head of the Institution/ Club at House no 3122,Sector 46 (C),Chandigarh before May 14.
