2 school children among 4 killed in Shimla as car plunges into gorge

The children were students of Sambhota Tibetan School in Chhota, Shimla, the police said.
Four people, including a woman and two school students, were killed in a road accident in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, after their car plunged into a deep gorge at the Dhalli-Shoghi-Mehali bypass on Tuesday night.
The victims were identified as Roopa Suryawanshi, 41; her daughter Pragati, 14; her nephew Mukul, 11—all residents of Navbahar; and their driver Jairam Negi, 45, a resident of Sanjauli.
The children were students of Sambhota Tibetan School in Chhota, Shimla, the police said.
According to preliminary investigation, Suryawanshi had picked up her daughter and nephew from school around 3 pm on Tuesday and were returning to their home in Navbahar near Chhota Shimla when the incident occurred.
“It remains under investigation where they were returning from. All the four victims died on the spot,” said Shakti Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Shimla.
The police said that school bags of the children were found inside the mangled car.
According to the police, a truck driver, who was proceeding from Shoghi to Dhalli via the Shoghi-Mehli bypass in his vehicle, heard a loud noise and saw a car fall off the road at Lal Pani Bridge around 8 pm. The driver, Sukhjeet Singh, alerted the police.
An officer said that the bodies were shifted to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Shimla, for postmortem examination.
A case has been registered at Boileauganj police station.
