Branches of the Central Bank of India across the tricity witnessed heavy rush of cricket fans to grab tickets for the March 30 World Cup semifinal match to be played at the PCA Stadium.

At the Sector-15 branch in Chandigarh, the people went berserk trying to get their turn quickly, and policemen had been deployed to prevent any untoward incident. The crowd comprised mostly the students of Panjab University (PU) and colleges around Sector 15,forming a serpentine queue and bringing the market to a standstill.

“I have never seen a cricket match live and the World Cup semi-final match seems like a perfect opportunity to experience and see cricketers live on the field. Moreover,I am hoping that India reach the semifinal stage. Plus,an Indo-Pak semi-final clash would be an icing on the top,” shared Amit Thakur,a student of DAV College,Sector 10.

There was such a craze for tickets that people brought their domestic helps too and requested rickshaw-pullers to stand in queue and buy tickets for them. However, the bank officials did not give tickets to anybody without checking their identity cards.

“I did not know that only one ticket was being given per person. I had no option but to ask a rickshaw-puller to stand in the queue and purchase a ticket for me. However, that plan did not work,” said Sector-15 resident Ankit Sharma.
