Five unidentified persons tried to commit a gunpoint-robbery at a Sector 28 petrol pump located next to Himachal Bhawan in the wee hours of Saturday. According to police,the incident took place at around 4 am,when Laxman,employed as a salesman at the pump,along with his helper Dinesh were sleeping in the office after closing the pump at 11pm on Friday .
The duo told the cops that five persons,who were reported to be on foot,first knocked on the glass door and later allegedly broke it with a stick. The robbers who were reported to be armed with a gun,entered the office and thrashed them. The robbers also tied the hands of Laxman and asked them for keys of the cash locker.
The two reportedly told them that the owner had taken the money and the keys with himself when the petrol pump was closed for the day. The accused then broke the lock of an almirah which contained clothes of the employees.
However,they did not break the lock of the cash box and fled the place. Following this,the workers informed the owner Rakesh Mahindra who stays in Manimajra who told them to inform the police. Later in the morning,a police and a Central Forensic Science Laboratory and Crime Investigation Agency inspected the spot.
The police have recorded the statements of the employees and got their medical examination done. The police have registered a case of attempted robbery,furtherance of common intention and under the Arms Act at the Sector 26 police station. The manager of the petrol pump was tight-lipped when asked about the incident which raised serious questions . The pump had remained closed for some time in the past.
