Rights panel seeks report from SSP over man missing for 108 days

Taking cognizance on a report published in The Indian Express on May 19 on a 32-year-old Chandigarh resident missing for the last 108 days, the State Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the SSP of Chandigarh Police.

The status report has been sought by a bench of Justice Sant Parkash (chairperson) and Justice Nirmaljit Kaur (member).

Abhay Singh Rana, 32, a graduate from Government College, Sector 46, left his home around 11 am on January 31, leaving behind his phone, wallet, and watch. However, despite lodging a complaint on February 1, there is still no information about his whereabouts.

Abhay’s brother Ajay Singh Rana, said that after the complaint was filed, he was told by the police that a team would come to their home and an official would go out with them to trace the missing person. However, no policeman came for the next 15 days.

The commission on perusing the detailed news-clipping published in the Chandigarh edition of The Indian Express has asked the SSP Chandigarh to submit his report, before the next date of hearing, which is July 8.
