Rickshawpuller stabbed in stomach,critical

A rickshawpuller was stabbed following a scuffle in Sector 26 here this afternoon.

A rickshawpuller was stabbed following a scuffle in Sector 26 here this afternoon. A scuffle amongst three rickshawpullers took an ugly turn when when two of them allegedly stabbed Udhal Kumar,a resident of Shashtri Colony,Manimajra.

According to the police,the scuffle took place over ferrying passengers. Udhal was stabbed in the stomach at the Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology in Sector 26. The victim was taken to the PGI,where his condition was stated to critical,the police said.

The SHO of the Sector-26 police station inspector Shri Parkash said the accused had been identified as Jasbir Singh,a resident of Mauli Jagran and Hari Shanker,a resident of Madrassi Colony in Sector 26. Both are absconding.

The doctor treating the victim declared him unfit to record his statement as he has been repeatedly stabbed in his belly. The police said it received information around 2:45 pm when someone rang up the PCR.

According to eyewitnesses,the trio had an altercation over picking up of passengers. However,some others on the spot said that the rickshawpullers were quarreling over possession of some intoxicants. “We are yet to establish the motive,even as we have registered a case of attempt to murder on a complaint lodged by the victim’s sister Ramawati. A hawker in Bapu Dham Colony,Ramawati,told the police that she reached the spot after being informed that his brother was being assaulted. She,however,was not sure about the real issue leading to the attack.
