In his latest avatar on the small screen,Varun Badola will be seen as a flamboyant Thakur Vikram Singh on Zee TV’s upcoming show Phir Subah Hogi — a story about the Bedia tribe of the Bundelkhand region in Madhya Pradesh. The show will bring to light a social custom prevailing in the state wherein daughters born in the Bedia family are forced to serve rich Thakurs of adjoining areas. “This Thakur is a larger than life character who doesn’t take no for an answer,” says Badola, taking about his role on the show. “He is an unpredictable person whose arrogance stems from his wealth and power. He is also aware of his responsibilities towards his family and fulfills them but has scant regard for women in general.” Phir Subah Hogi, says Badola,is a show that’s highlighting exploitation of women in the rural pockets of the country. “I was amazed to find that such customs are still prevalent in our society. Vikram Singh is wise, learned, brave and a great leader but has a weakness for women.” Badola started his career with Zee TV and has returned to it with this show. A singer and dancer,Badola is also a script and dialogue writer and director.
