Retd Colonel booked for fraud

The UT police booked a retired colonel on a complaint lodged by his sister accusing him of cloning an ATM card and withdrawing Rs 2.25 lakh from her saving account in Sector-8 branch of State Bank of Patiala.

The sister,Anupamdeep Kaur,a resident of Sector 38-West,accused her brother retired colonel Amardeep Singh,a resident of Sector 9 of fraudulently withdrawing the money from a joint account she had opened in a bank with her father by getting prepared an ATM card in the name of her father,who was bed-ridden. She further alleged that her brother kept on withdrawing money fraudulently even as their father was battling death in coma on ventilator.

A case of cheating under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code against Amardeep Singh on Monday after conducting an inquiry into the matter lasting over six months. Anupamdeep Kaur had lodged a complaint with the UT Inspector-general of police on February 8.

Anupamdeep Kaur in her complaint had alleged that her brother misappropriated her funds. She alleged that her brother had full knowledge that she was having a joint account with her father and all the funds in the account were exclusively meant for her.

The complainant alleged that the fraud came to light when she found that a substantial amount had been withdrawn from her account from August 17,last to December 16. She maintained that her father was not in position to own and operate an ATM card and the same was used by her brother fraudulently. Anupamdeep Kaur told the police that she got records from the bank showing that her brother withdrawing money using the ATM card.
