THE RESIDENTS of Khijrabaad, Abheypur and some adjoining villages again alleged that illegal sand mining had been going on in their area for the past few days. The residents alleged that despite the protest, they noticed the movement of tipper trucks in their area. Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan formed teams to carry out surprise checking in the areas prone to mining.
Ram Singh, who has been heading the protest for the past around four months, said that in the past few days they noticed the movement of tipper trucks in the area and also noticed fresh signs of digging up the sand at the old illegal mining sites. He also alleged that the illegal stone crushers are still running in the area.
Gurwinder Singh, a Khijrabaad resident, said that they would meet senior officers in the coming days and bring the issue to their notice. He added that the villagers are keeping vigil but despite it, the illegal sand mining was going on.
The DC formed teams to carry out surprise checking in the mining-prone areas. The teams consisted of officers from police as well as the civil administration. “We too are keeping an eye. The teams were formed and the officers who are leading the teams shall keep me updated on a daily basis. We also urged people to lodge a complaint on our dedicated e-mail address regarding illegal mining,” the DC added.
