‘Remove poll code violations in 24 hrs’

District Electoral Officer Deepinder Singh,also issued directions to serve a 12-hour notice to violators.

Failing this,the expenses incurred will be included on the candidate’s/party’s election expenses.

The whole town is full of hoardings and other publicity material at prominent places,which are in violation of the poll code norms.

Besides,directions were also issued to public representatives and government appointees to not use official vehicles for campaigning purposes.

In reaction to a report titled,“Poll code fails to clear highways of hoardings”,which appeared in Chandigarh Newsline on Friday,the district administration swung into action and pulled down hoardings and billboards from highways,main roads and busy intersections in both Mohali and Kharar. Taking note of the violation of the model code of conduct and the directions issued by both the apex court and the Punjab and Haryana High Court,the authorities removed saffron-coloured display boards which greets commuters on the Mohali-Kharar stretch of National Highway 21,with pictures of ruling SAD president and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal. Residents,meanwhile,also urged the district administration to act tough against neon signboards put up by institutes,companies and other establishments on the Mohali-Kharar stretch of NH-21.
