A delegation of BJP leaders met the UT Home Secretary asking for a case of sedition to be registered against chairman of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
Farooq had come to the city on November 25 to speak at a seminar organised by the Internationalist Democratic Party on problems in Jammu and Kashmir. During the seminar he referred to J&K as being separate from India.
Thereafter,a ruckus was witnessed at the Kisan Bhawan venue in Sector 35. The members of various wings of BJP were present at the venue and were rounded up by the police.
The delegation demanded that case of sedition be registered against Farooq and the organisers. The members stated that the Administration has all the documentary and audio-visual evidence of the speech which are required.
The party had earlier given a representation to the SSP for registration of the case. They had been told that permission would be required from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The members of the delegation included Sanjay Tandon,Harmohan Dhawan,Satya Pal Jain and other leaders.
President of the city unit Sanjay Tandon said that separatist Mirwaiz Umar Farooq during his speech made anti-national remarks and described Kashmir separate from our country challenging the unity,integrity and sovereignty of country. With his anti-national remarks he incited disaffection towards the Government of India.
