In yet another blow to the prosecution, two more witnesses turned hostile in the infamous rape on wheels case on Monday before a local Court.

In yet another blow to the prosecution, two more witnesses turned hostile in the infamous rape on wheels case on Monday before a local Court. The Chandigarh Police had registered a case against former UT Home Secretary and top Haryana-cadre IAS officer N K Jain and others. Six witnesses have turned hostile during the case proceedings.

Contrary to his previous statement, witness constable Geja Singh, who was posted in State Transport Authority (STA) Chandigarh, said that the accused never visited State Transport Authority to meet Narvir Singh, the co-accused.

The second witness,Sameena who also turned hostile on Monday submitted that she is not the victim’s friend and neither knows the accused nor the victim. In August 2002,the Chandigarh Police had registered a case against former Home Secretary N K Jain and four others for hatching a conspiracy to frame a Sector 8-based businessman M K Jain in the rape case.

The victim in her complaint had alleged that M K Jain took her from a computer centre at Sector 20 on the pretext of providing her a job. She had claimed that the accused gave her a cold drink laced with intoxicant on the way to Panchkula and later raped and dumped her near Sector 33 petrol station. Investigation carried out by the Chandigarh Police found that the victim was not raped by M K Jain, but by the former UT Home Secretary N K Jain, who along with others had hatched a conspiracy to falsely implicate MK Jain in the case.

A Chandigarh district court had framed charges of gangrape and criminal conspiracy against N K Jain,Ram Lal,Narvir Singh,Surinder Sharma and Baldev Kumar in the case.
