The Punjab government will build 13 new overbridges to decongest main highways in different parts of the state while the construction of 27 overbridges has already been completed and that on 13 other overbridges was in advanced stage of completion.
Punjab PWD Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa disclosed this after kick-starting the work on village boundary road at an estimated cost of Rs 25.31 lakh in Badali village near Kharar on Monday.
He said the main thrust of the present regime was on strengthening the road network across the state. Not only we have taken up main state and national highways for four and six laning but also given priority to the widening and strengthening of village link roads besides bringing a revolution in the field of overbridges, claimed Dhindsa.
Minister divulged that Rs 7,000 crore has already been spent on the improvement of village link roads,which have been widened from 10 to 18 and 18 to 23 foot. He said that besides spending Rs 500 crore on constructing overbridges,similar amount was being spent on the overbridges under construction.
