As block samiti poll results were getting declared across Punjab, an unusual situation emerged in Fazilka district after Dalmeerkhera seat witnessed a tie following recounting.

Initially, Judge Singh was declared winner by a margin of three votes over BJP’s Gurmeet Singh. However, the BJP candidate sought a recount, after which both candidates were found to have secured 734 votes each. The winner was subsequently decided through a draw of lots, in which Judge Singh emerged as the winner.

“Finally, Judge Singh won through a draw of lots,” Gulab Singh, naib tehsildar, Abohar, who was the returning officer at the polling booth, said.

However, the SAD candidate, while refusing to accept this method, insisted that he won by three votes. “I don’t consider this draw of lots results,” he added.
