A number of businessmen — including a jeweller, liquor contractor, mining contractor, property dealer, godown, immigration firm and shopping malls owners — were allegedly being targeted by Anmol Bishnoi for extortion on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

The businessmen were based in Panchkula, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar and Sonipat and the extortion, ranging from Rs 50 lakh and Rs 2 crore, was made in last two months, a senior officer of Special Task Force (STF), Ambala said.

On Tuesday, the STF arrested an arms dealer Vicky Garg, alias Lala a member of Anmol’s gang. The task force had earlier arrested Sahil alias Prajapati, Krishan Kumar, Vishal and Chirag reportedly from the gang. They were arrested in connection of firing at the house of Makhan Lubana, who runs an immigration firm and also a Municipal Counsellor, in Ambala. An extortion of Rs 50 lakh was sought from the businessman on April 27.

“We believe Anmol Bishnoi – younger brother of Lawrence Bishnoi – is taking over the command of his gang. The top gang leaders of Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldy Brar are making Anmol as their new face,” the official said.

Anmol, who believed to be in California in US, also allegedly opened fire at the houses of at least two businessmen in Panchkula and Ambala to terrorise them. The STF has also identified a Gorakhpur-based arm dealer Shashank Pandey, who it claims improvised multiple sophisticated weapons to the shooters on the instructions of Anmol.

Sources in the STF told The Indian Express that usually, Goldy Brar apparently used to make extortion calls to the identified businessmen. There is now some pressure on Goldy and his other aids. Some of the businessmen, who received the extortion calls on Whatsapp, recorded their conversation and submitted it to us, the sources added.

“First Anmol’s aide made calls to the victims, and when the victims did not pay heed, then Anmol speaks. For gathering information about the resourceful people included businessmen etc, they are instrumenting petty criminals that are active in respective areas,” one of the sources said.

STF Incharge Aman Kumar said during interrogation of last arrested accused Vicky alias Lala, it was found that arms dealer Shashank used to call him on Whatsapp from international numbers.

“But he (Shashank) never showed him (Lala) his view. He made all the video calls from a closed room,” Kumar added.
