PU symposium by video conferencing a success

A two-day symposium,sponsored by PURSE on Image processing,Analysis and Clinical Applications was successfully inaugurated by VC Professor RC Sobti through video-conferencing at University Institute of Engineering and Technology,Panjab University,Chandigarh.

A two-day symposium,sponsored by PURSE on Image processing,Analysis and Clinical Applications was successfully inaugurated by VC Professor RC Sobti through video-conferencing at University Institute of Engineering and Technology(UIET),Panjab University,Chandigarh. It was tele-casted to audiences/delegates at PU Campus,UIET and SSGPU Regional Center and Hoshiarpur.

The theme of symposium was to encourage the researchers to contribute in this area and explore the field of biomedical engineering. Around fifty participants from various eminent institutes attended the symposium. Live interaction was done between participants from SSGPU regional center,Hoshiarpur and UIET

Professor Sobti,in his speech highlighted the fact that in the medical field images,specially digital images are produced in huge quantities and used for diagnostics and therapy. Medical imaging has become a vital part in the early detection,diagnosis and treatment of various diseases with the help of numerous imaging modalities like CT,MRI and PET. The precise knowledge of technical aspects of 2-D and 3-D image processing is mandatory for a physician.

Prof. Renu Vig,Director,UIET,welcomed participants from various academic institutes by introducing the clinical applications of image processing. Ex-Director Prof. B.S. Sohi was also the part of the inaugural ceremony and appreciated the successful launch of video conferencing set up.

Dr. Vinod Kumar,Professor and Head,Department of Electrical Engineering,IIT,Roorkee delivered a lecturer on ECG Signal Processing and shared his research work with participants. He demonstrated the signal processing tools developed at IIT,Roorkee with live data. Dr. Khadelwal from PGIMER,Chandigarh delivered a talk on 3D imaging. He discussed various applications of 3D imaging in ultra-sonography,virtual colonoscopy study,MRI etc
