PU placements: Lowest annual pay up from Rs 1.8 lakh to Rs 3 lakh

Out of a total of 400 final year students at the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET),396 have been selected for various jobs this year,with annual salaries ranging between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 8 lakh. Last year the average salary offered to students of this department was Rs 3.3 lakh against this year’s average of Rs 5.5 lakh. Only 292 of nearly 450 students could secure jobs last year.

UICET

While the highest package secured by students of the University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (UICET) remains almost similar to last year’s Rs 9 lakh per anum,the lowest package rose to Rs 3 lakh this year from 1.8 lakh last year. As many as 80 of the total 100 final year students this year have received their offer letters by now.

UBS

Against the highest package of Rs 6.5 lakh secured by the students of the University Business School (UBS) last year,the maximum package went up to Rs 9.5 lakh this year. Also,out of nearly 150 outgoing students in the department,as many as 115 students have secured jobs by now.

UIAMS

The University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS) has seen the placement of 128 out of 167 students so far. However,the placement trends at this department show a slight improvement this year when compared with the previous year’s packages. The highest and lowest salary packages earned by the students were found to be Rs 6.1 lakh and Rs 3 lakh respectively this year,improving from the corresponding figures of Rs 5.5 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh last year.

Other Depts

The other departments showing increment in their average pay packages this year include the School of Communication Studies (SCS) (Rs 3 lakh),University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Rs 3 lakh),Department of Economics (Rs 2.5 lakh) and Department of Chemistry (Rs 3.5 lakh).

According to PU officials,there has been an increase in the demand for consultancy services in the market this year.

“Most of the companies which visited us included IT solutions companies and consultancy services’ firms. The placement process was conducted online this year and we tried to introduce a more professional approach in the system,” said S K Chadha,coordinator of the Central Placement Cell.

A total of 44 companies had registered for the placement drive this year. These included Wipro Infotech,UOP,Honda,Infosys,the JP Group,Nestle,Volvo-Eicher,Tech-Mahindra,SUFI and Syntel.
