PU deans discuss low-floor buses for campus

Another possibility of charging parking fees in PU was also discussed in the Deans’ meeting.

Prof Kholi had asked the Dean,Students Welfare (DSW),Prof A S Ahluwalia,to make a note pertaining to this proposal of low-floor buses.

Talking to Chandigarh Newsline,Prof Kholi said,“In one of our meetings I had mooted the idea of allowing low-floor buses to ply on the campus and no vehicle should be allowed to park on the road sides. It is just an idea. Let’s see if everyone agrees.”

In one of the conferences,when Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover was asked about the problem of heavy traffic on the campus,he had replied,“Right now I am focusing on major things. I am aware of this problem. Traffic problem needs collective responsibility.”

Lawyer seeks SHO’s transfer

Lawyer H C Arora,who practises with the Punjab and Haryana High Court,on Monday has written to the Inspector General of Police (IGP),UT Administration,R P Upadhayaya to change the Station House Officer (SHO),Sector 39 with some other impartial police officials,because his client,who has filed a case in the High Court against sexual harassment,is under threat.

The victim had already filed a complaint with the IG about a threat to her life,followed by which the IG had marked an inquiry to DSP,South,Surjit Malik.

Arora also said that the accused appears to be in connivance with police officials,and so for a fair inquiry into the registered FIR,the SHO of Sector 39 must be changed.

However,IG Upadhyaya said that he has not checked the mail sent by the lawyer so far. He said he will take action after inquiring about the complaint.

Arora highlighted that on August 21,2012 her client had registered an FIR at Police Station,Sector 39 against Ranjit Singh Panjatha.

The victim had apprised the IG that her application,seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail of one Ranjit Singh Panjatha,is pending before Preeti Sahni,Additional Sessions Judge,Chandigarh.

She alleged that her car’s front wind screen was broken on February 18,and then someone also cut the petrol pipe of her car on February 23,and on February 21,someone cut her water pipe as it was found disconnected.

“All these incidents took place after I had filed a petition in the High Court seeking issuance of appropriate guidelines/ directions to the police and judicial officers for sensitising them in their dealing with investigation/ prosecution of cases involving crime against women,” she added.

The High Court had already issued notices to UT Administration,Punjab and Haryana on her petition and the case is still pending in the court.
