In order to protest against the transfer of additional junior engineer (AJE),members of the Derabassi unit of Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) Employees Federation continued their strike on Monday. The sarpanchs, panchayats and residents of the nearby villages of Hatebpur,Behra and Fatehpur also encouraged the protest of the employees against the authorities concerned.
The members assembled outside the PSEB office and raised slogans seeking justice for AJE Subhash Chander who was recently transferred out for allegedly declining an illegal project.
Jagdeesh Sharma, the Mohali Circle president of the union,vice-president Gurcharan Singh, president of the sub-division Suresh Chander along with senior members Mohan Lal Gupta and Sohan Singh Gill addressed the gathering.
Sharma said: AJE Subhash is a sincere employee who has been transferred under sheer political pressure, without any specific reasons. The strike, which was initiated on June 4,will continue until he is posted back to Derabassi.
The AJE had been issued transfer orders on May 28 without any prior intimation, immediately after he allegedly refused to install a domestic supply electricity meter at a commercial showroom as demanded by Kuldeep Nagpal,a steno at Punjab Civil Secretariat, who posed as a personal assistant to Finance Minister Manpreet Badal.
On Subhash Chanders refusal to participate,Kuldeep reportedly threatened him with dire consequences. Subsequently,Chander was transferred to Patiala and Kuldeep was also threatened of being dismissed.
