Deepika Gandhi, former Director Le Corbusier Centre, while speaking to The Indian Express, said, “Most foreign tourists come to Chandigarh to see the most unique example of urban planning in India. Most of them are already aware of the modern heritage present in the city even if not aware about the actual significance of Corbusier. In fact, I have come across more non architects who visit Chandigarh to see the unique socio-cultural setup of a modern city in India. The city and its green Modern character in general and then of course the Capitol complex, museums etc are the biggest attractions.”
Places foreign tourists are attracted to the most in Chandigarh
Unlike any other city, Chandigarh boasts of several attractions which remain the preferred places flocked by foreign tourists. Among them are the Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake, the Le Corbusier Centre, the Indian Air Force Heritage Centre, the Bird Park, the Capitol Complex and the Government Museum and Art Gallery.
How does Chandigarh keep track of its foreign visitors
Every hotel or tourist place gives a form to foreign tourists to fill in. The details are submitted by each hotel to the Tourism department and from there, a record is generated.
For a more mechanised system, the Chandigarh Tourism has also recently created a portal where every hotel in Chandigarh will get a unique ID and password to update the details of the number of foreign as well as domestic tourists so that an authentic data may be automatically compiled by the system. The portal is in the final stage and will be launched by next month, said officials.
