For a band who calls their genre confused pop,Faridkot is quite well-put together. Its not that were clueless about our genre, says Rajarshi Sanyal, lead guitarist, but we dont want to restrain ourselves to any one genre. Our idea is to get together and hopefully create something that is the sixth element. The five member band consisting of Sanyal (lead guitarist),Inderpreet Singh (vocals),Akshay Raheka (keyboards),Gavin Pacheco (bassist) and Sahil Mendiratta (drums),came together for Channel [Vs reality music show Launchpad in 2008,where they ended up as the runners-up. They have been collecting and recording material for their debut album since, and are now fine-tuning their album Ek (Rs 149),which will be released on January 20 at Delhis Hard Rock Café,Saket. It features their hit track Laila. The band will be performing in all major metros promoting the album, prior to that. Our music is our bread and butter,so we are very serious about it, says Singh, adding that only Raheja works as an AV engineer at an advertising firm during the day, while the rest are full time musicians. The band-members produced the album independently, and completed recording all the tracks before approaching record label,Times Music. Because it is a self-produced album, you can notice the absence of a sound engineer, says Pacheco, who quit his job as a HR executive with Wipro to focus on their music. There are some kinks here and there, and its not completely polished, but it also means that we did not compromise on our own unique sound, he adds. The band believes in using colloquial Hindi to make it appealing to the youth. You dont have to use heavy-duty Hindi poetry for a song, says Singh, adding,A song can be just as good while using the every day language. The album will be available at the launch and in stores from January 20.
