Police car overturns while chasing miscreants

A home guard volunteer was injured and three policemen had a narrow escape after the jeep they were travelling in overturned near transit camp in Sector 52 today.

The police said they were informed about a scuffle near Government Model Senior Secondary School in Sector 35 in the afternoon. When a PCR reached the spot,four youths were beating up two others and fled away in their red jeep (CH03B 9693) seeing the police approach.

They sped away and nearly knocked down a cyclist. We were cautiously approaching them and were about to overtake,when the driver of the jeep hit the gypsy. Due to the high speed,the gypsy overturned, a police officer said. The youths managed to escape,while the home guard volunteer,identified as Parveen Kumar,was given first aid. Station House Officer of Sector 36 police station,Inspector Anokh Singh,said a case of rash driving and causing hurt has been registered.
