Modi says promise of ‘person wearing hawai chappals’ flying in planes being fulfilled; Saini hails ‘triple-engine’ govt
After PM Modi flags off flight operations from Hisar airport, CM Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini says Haryana’s ‘double-engine’ government has now transformed into a ‘triple-engine’ government.

While inaugurating flight operations at Maharaja Agrasen Airport in Hisar, Haryana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that his “promise that a person wearing hawai chappals will fly in an aeroplane” was being fulfilled.
“This is to take the aspirations of Haryana to newer heights. It has been my promise to you that a person wearing hawai chappals will fly in an aeroplane. We are seeing this promise being fulfilled,” Modi said. “During the past 10 years, crores of Indians flew in planes for the first time. We build airports at places where even good railway stations did not exist before. Before 2014, the country had 74 airports. But now India has more than 150 airports.”
“Our airline companies have placed orders for 2,000 new planes. When more planes are added, jobs—be it in the shape of pilots, air hostesses and other services like ground staff—will be generated. A big sector connected with aircraft maintenance will also generate a lot of jobs,” the prime minister added.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said Haryana was fulfilling its responsibility of serving the common man while implementing the central government’s welfare schemes. “Today, on April 14, we are witnessing a significant milestone as air services commence from the newly constructed Maharaja Agrasen Airport in Hisar to the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya, the city of Lord Shri Rama. Along with this, the foundation stone laying of the second terminal of Haryana’s first airport marks another leap in the direction of development. This event has sparked a wave of enthusiasm across the entire state ushering in a new era, a new direction, and a new momentum in Haryana’s growth journey,” the chief minister said at the Sankalp Ki Udaan event in Hisar.
The event was held to mark the inauguration of air services from Maharaja Agrasen Airport and the foundation stone laying for Terminal 2, on the occasion of the 135th birth anniversary of Bhimrao Ambedkar.
The first flight from Hisar took off to Ayodhya on Monday. The Ayodhya flight will operate twice a week and three flights in a week will operate between Hisar and Jammu, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Chandigarh. The new terminal will be built at an estimated cost of over Rs 410 crore in two years.
Talking about his government’s achievements, Saini said, “Within the first 100 days of the BJP’s third term, 19 promises from the party’s Sankalp Patra have been fulfilled, work has commenced on 90 others, and significant progress is being made on the rest. Haryana’s double-engine government has now transformed into a triple-engine government, accelerating the pace of development threefold.”
Saini highlighted the Lado Laxmi Yojana for women, for which a provision of Rs 5,000 crore has been made in the state’s first budget of the new term.
Reflecting on the transformation in air travel, the chief minister said, “For many years after Independence, air travel remained a distant dream for the common citizen due to lack of connectivity. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has turned this dream into reality through the Udan scheme…”
