The faculty association has threatened to boycott the proceedings of the Foundation Day celebrations at the Post Graduate Institute for Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) to be held on July 7.
The decision has been taken in the wake of non-implementation of the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission.
The decision of the faculty members comes after the general body meeting held a fortnight ago where it was decided that if the recommendations were not implemented by June 30,the faculty would boycott the annual function of the institute.
As the deadline has already lapsed,Dr Ritesh Aggarwal, the general secretary of the faculty association, told Newsline that the body would meet again on July 5,two days before the scheduled function,to decide the further course of action.
We have already written to PGI Director Professor K K Talwar but no correspondence has come from the directors office in this regard, added Dr Aggarwal.
The Sixth Pay Commission has recommended that the duration of promotion at each level be reduced and the selected faculty be promoted to the next level. The aim of this recommendation is to prevent stagnation and exodus of faculty from the institute and retain excellence. The order from the ministry clearly states that the pay package (pay and promotions) for the faculty be implemented from January 1,2006.
However, till date no communication has been made by the Administration in this regard. To add to the confusion, there has been an advertisement for fresh interviews without inviting the existing faculty for their long awaited promotions, stated the association members.
