More than 600 technologists working at the PGI have demanded that the governing body should approve the Restructuring of Cadre and Higher Pay Scale Report.
According to them the report has been approved by the health ministry for reviewing the cadre of the technologists.
“Lab technologists at the PGI for the past 50 years have been awaiting reconstructing of cadre and higher pay scale, which has been already approved by the ministry of finance, department of expenditure,” said Rajiv Sharma, a technical assistant at the PGI.
“The governing body should approve the report so that it would give some respectability and dignity to the medical technologist fraternity,” he added.

Sharma said other categories of the institute like sanitation, library, engineering have got their restructured cadres and higher pay scales years ago.
“Technologists have been working in different departments of the institute. Despite providing services to the institute, we are yet to get first cadre review. The nursing staff got the same in 1993-1994,” he said.
The technologists said the former director PGI, K K Talwar, had constituted Prabhakar Committee to review the cadre of medical technologist. “The committee submitted report to the PGI director, who forwarded the report to the health ministry for approval,” he said.
“The ministry had taken up the matter with the ministry of finance. Now its is the governing body who has to approve it finally,” Sharma said.
The letter had also said the PGI has finances to absorb the extra expenditure and the proposal is financially neutral.
PGI spokesperson Manju Wadwalkar said he has no “information about the issue.”
