In a major success under the ongoing drive against criminals and drug traffickers, the CIA Staff, Mohali, has arrested one accused and recovered 100 grams of heroin from his possession. According to Inspector Harminder Singh, Incharge, CIA Staff Mohali, on October 2, a police team was conducting a checkpoint near Christian School, Kharar, in connection with Dussehra security arrangements. During the operation, the team was inspecting suspicious vehicles and individuals when a man approaching from the Kharar side turned back abruptly after spotting the police. Sub-Inspector Gurpratap Singh stopped the suspect on suspicion and conducted a search. “During checking, we found a steel water bottle that was unusually heavy and open from the bottom. On opening it, we discovered 100 grams of heroin concealed inside,” said Inspector Harminder Singh. The accused, identified as Harjeet Singh, alias Harry (34), a resident of Ward No. 5, Kamboj Nagar, Pippal Wali Gali, Ferozepur, was arrested on the spot. A case was registered against him under the NDPS Act at City Police Station, Kharar. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused has studied up to Class 12 and married, and has been supplying heroin from Ferozepur to various parts of Mohali district. He was also previously booked under the NDPS Act at Phase-8 Police Station, Mohali. “The accused has been remanded in police custody, and efforts are underway to identify the person to whom he was supposed to supply the heroin,” said the police official.
