Punjabi university men and women teams entered the semi-finals of the All-India Inter University Baseball Championship being played at the Raja Bhalender Singh Sports Stadium on Friday. In the men’s section,Punjabi University,Patiala,outplayed Delhi University 16-3,while Pune University got the better of Kurukshetra University 6-4 to enter the semi-finals. In another match,Hindustan Institute Chennai outclassed Panjab University,Chandigarh,15-5,while MD University,Rohtak,routed Mumbai University 9-1. In the women’s section,MD University,Rohtak,defeated Guru Nanak Dev University,Amritsar,14-4,while Delhi University got the better of SGB Amravati University 13-6. Jiwaji University,Gwalior eves prevailed over Panjab University,Chandigarh,7-6 and Punjabi University,Patiala,humbled Kurukshetra University 19-9 to enter the last four.
Golf tourney from today
To promote golf amongst the Civil Servants,All India Civil Services Golf Society has formed six zones- Northern,Central,Eastern,Western,Southern and North East Zone. CSR Reddy is the President of North Zone which comprises of J & K,Himachal Pradesh,Punjab,Haryana,Rajasthan and Chandigarh. Meanwhile,Chandigarh Golf Association will organise the 5th North Zone Civil Service Golf Championship. Gunshot tee off for the championship will be on February 13 and 14 at Panchkula Golf Club at 9.30 am. As many as 65 serving and 12 retired officers will participate in the championship to be played over 36 holes. Based on gross scores on both days,10 players,including two reserves,will be selected for the All India Civil Services Golf Championship scheduled to be held in Delhi on March 20 and 21 at the Qutab Golf Club,New Delhi.
