Param sails into U-14 pre-quarters

Riding high on his big serve and baseline play,local lad Param Pun made his way into the second round in the boys' U-14 category with a 6-4,5-7,6-3 win over Eklavya Singh of Jharkhand in the CLTA-AITA Super Series tennis Tournament being played at CLTA courts on Monday.

Riding high on his big serve and baseline play,local lad Param Pun made his way into the second round in the boys’ U-14 category with a 6-4,5-7,6-3 win over Eklavya Singh of Jharkhand in the CLTA-AITA Super Series tennis Tournament being played at CLTA courts on Monday. Pun claimed the first set with a 6-4 margin before losing the second set with a narrow 5-7 margin. Pun then regrouped his energies and won the third and final set with a 6-3 margin to book his berth in the second round.

It was easy going for another Chandigarh lad Sagar Bains as his opponent Mayuk Rawat of Uttrakhand conceded the match after trailing 3-6,6-3. Punjab’s Paramveer Singh Bajwa too booked his berth in the pre-quarters with a 6-0,6-1 win over Prithvi Khanna of Delhi. Bajwa claimed the first set easily with a 6-0 margin before winning the second and final set with a 6-1 margin to storm into the pre-quarters.

In the boys’ U-16 category,Pun had to face defeat as he lost 3-6,1-6 to Ankush Arora of Punjab. Bajwa,meanwhile continued his fine form as he registered a 5-6,6-3,6-2 win over Tejas Kapoor of Delhi.

In the girls’ U-14 category,Chandigarh’s Aarushi Kakkar scored a 4-6,6-1,6-1 win over Jannat Khurana to move into the second round while another Chandigarh player Nandini Sharma too booked her berth in the second round with a 6-1,7-5 win over Apekshita Alkesh of Delhi. Bani Singh of Punjab also made her way into the second round with a 6-0,6-0 win over Farhat Qamar of Rajasthan.
