Panchkula to tighten noose on illegal mining

Panchkula district administration has decided to tighten noose against those indulging in illegal mining.

The Panchkula district administration has decided to tighten noose against those indulging in illegal mining.

“The officers of Excise and Taxation department have been asked to conduct strict checking of the vehicles coming from Punjab,Himachal Pradesh and other neighbouring states at nine nakas set up at various places by the department,” said Panchkula Deputy Commissioner Ashima Brar while presiding over the monthly meeting of the officers which is held at the district secretariat.

Despite the ban on mining in the district, the activity reportedly continues in many pockets of Panchkula.

The Panchkula mining department has detected 586 cases of illegal mining last year,in spite of the official ban.

They have also registered FIRs in a few cases.

Brar also directed the officers of Public Health Engineering and Power departments not to sanction water and power connections to those people who are encroaching upon the government land illegally in the district.

The Panchkula Deputy Commissioner also directed the officers of the Labour department to conduct regular checking of 50 brick kilns functioning in the district and ensure that there should be no case of child labour or bonded labour.
